SHORT TRACK ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
ABOUT
First awarded in 1970, the Athlete of the Year Award recognizes athletes who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to success during the season through outstanding performance at national or international competitions, dedication to the team and/or individual training program, continued growth in physical and technical abilities, and demonstration of leadership, integrity, and respect.
Canadian short track skaters are eligible to win either the Nathalie Lambert Award (Female Short Track Athlete of the Year) or the Marc Gagnon Award (Male Short Track Athlete of the Year).
SELECTION CRITERIA
Nominees for a Short Track Athlete of the Year award must demonstrate exceptional commitment to success during the season through:
- Outstanding performance at national or international competitions
- Dedication to the team and/or individual training program
- Demonstration of leadership, integrity, and respect
- Continued development in physical and technical knowledge and abilities
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for the Short Track Athlete of the Year award, athletes must have competed in a minimum of one national or international level competition in the current season and must be a member in good standing of Speed Skating Canada.
Individuals may receive an Athlete of the Year award more than once. A maximum of one winner will be selected for each award in a given year.
