Jeffrey Scholten

BIOGRAPHY

Jeffrey Scholten joined the Canada’s short track program coaching staff in 2010 and has been leading the NextGen program since 2018.

Scholten was on the national short track team from 2000 to 2007, a career highlighted by four World Cup medals, four FISU medals and podium performances at both the 1999 World Championships and 2002 World Team Championships. He also set five world records during his career, including two in the 500m, one in the 1000m and one in the men’s relay.

After retiring from competitive speed skating in 2008, Scholten served as an equipment technician with the national team for two seasons and was named a member of the support staff for Vancouver 2010. He was hired on as an assistant coach following the Olympic Games, working closely with women’s national and development team skaters. He took over the NextGen program in 2018.

Scholten has coached on the international stage for over a decade, appearing at several World Cups and World Junior Championships. In 2018, he guided the Canadian women’s team to its first World Junior Championship title in the relay, while also helping Courtney Sarault earn three individual medals.
